Dr Meg Evans

Dr Meg Evans’ core expertise lies in the biological assessment of materials for biomedical purposes using in vitro and in vivo models. Her experience includes taking research outcomes from the bench through preclinical animal trials and into human subjects. The early part of Dr Evans’ career was spent in immunology in both clinical and research labs. Later she became involved in research focused on developing new and improved materials for biomedical devices and tissue engineering at the University of NSW and then at CSIRO where she spent 20 years as a research scientist. Much of that period at CSIRO was spent working as part of a multi-disciplinary team collaborating with other research institutions and industry through several rounds of CRC’s focused on the development of biomaterials for ophthalmic applications. During her time in CSIRO she was awarded a CSIRO Medal for Research Achievement in 2009, and again in 2012, for team research in ophthalmic biomaterials, and a Eureka Prize for Interdisciplinary Team Research in 2004 for the development of a material for use as an implantable contact lens.
